QSO Party Day Contest organized by Marconi Club it’s as always with the “short contest” format, is now in its 8th edition. This year, the event is scheduled for Saturday, January 3, 2026. The purpose of the event is to introduce our club to the younger generations and bring together all those who truly love and believe in telegraphy, promoting the MARCONI CLUB ARI LOANO, founded on May 8, 1988, by the late Libero Meriggi I1YXN and the renowned DX-peditioner Baldur Drobnica DJ6SI.
The event will involve all members of the historic club, which has nearly 1000 members from all over the world, and all enthusiasts of this wonderful and magnificent art of CW.
For this edition too, the BEGALI company, an undisputed world leader in the production of high-quality telegraph keys, has agreed to support our Contest by donating one of their own keys, which will be raffled off among the top five finishers in the Marconi Operators category.
To further encourage participants, this special prize cannot be awarded to those who have already received it in a previous edition.
The awards ceremony and the drawing for the special prize will take place at the Marconi Club stand at the Ham-Radio Exhibition Center in Montichiari (BS) on Saturday, March 15, 2026.
This year, it will also be possible to upload logs online. Please note that logs must be uploaded exclusively in Cabrillo format. Logs can be uploaded via the Marconi Club ARI Loano page at:

CW Fun Day on Sunday 20th October 2024

Gilmore & North West Morse Radio Club invites you to take part on our first CW Fun Day, on Sunday 20th October 2024. The CW Fun Day is open to any licensed ham radio operator interested in CW.

We will be running several CW nets through the day for beginners or experienced alike. Exchanges for beginners can be callsigns and reports; for those more experienced can include names, locations and a short chat. The aim is for everyone taking part to enjoy CW with friendly like-minded operators.

Each CW net lasts up to an hour, with seven separate nets on different bands through the day, so we hope there are some to suit you. CW net speeds will be about 18wpm; slower to match. The beginners Slow Speed Net, SSN, will be up to 14wpm; slower to match. Controllers are club members and guests.

We start at 10am on 30m/40m, so controller will start on 10.126 for+/- for about 15 mins, and if calls come in, will stay on that frequency. If calls don’t come in, the controller will switch to 40m and will call on 7.038 +/- thereafter. For the Beginners Slow Speed Net at 12 noon on 30m/40m, the controller will follow the same process.

All our net controllers will call CQ or CQ NET followed by their callsigns. The beginners net call will be CQ or CQ SSN. To reply to any net, either send YOUR CALLSIGN once followed by K, or send CONTROLLER CALLSIGN DE YOUR CALLSIGN followed by K.

Please note that the net controllers callsign may be changed at short notice, so please listen carefully for the controller callsign.

Please bear with us if there are several other callsigns sent at the same time as you send, and the controller will try to ensure as many as possible have a QSO. For this reason, we ask that QSOs can be kept relatively short for a busy net, and we suggest up to 6 mins per call.

We highly recommend you use Reverse Beacon Network, RBN, and/or the app Ham Alert, to check on exact net frequency. We look forward to hearing your call.

Olivers Wake

Olivers wake was held on 11th March 2022 in Hatfield Peverel. Lots of friends and family came along to celebrate his life. The Amateur world was well represented with members of Essex CW and and CARS (Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society) in attendance. There were also many others from the various Hobbies and interests he participated in throughout his life. Oliver M0WAG will be greatly missed by all.

Oliver Prin M0WAG – Silent Key

Essex CW ARC committee member Oliver Prin M0WAG of Heybridge Basin near Maldon sadly passed away on Friday 28th January 2022.

Oliver was an enthusiastic Essex CW ARC committee member always willing to give encouragement to newcomers, beginners and returners alike. Oliver was ever-present at the Thursday evening training sessions at Danbury village hall; always approachable and able to chat to on a wide range of radio related topics. Oliver also helped out with the running of our Essex CW Boot Camp and helped out with teaching newcomers on the Beginners Table and advising on Health and Safety requirements. Oliver was a keen CW and DX enthusiast seeking to gain DXCC awards.

Oliver was also very helpful in facilitating the location of our annual Field Day station at Heybridge Basin; giving us access to a field (owned by a family member) and providing bacon sandwiches for the team.

Oliver first obtained Foundation call M3WPI, then passed Chelmsford ARS Intermediate Course in May-2008 to become 2E0WAA, later passing his Advanced exam to become M0WAG.

One of our club members will always remember Oliver teaching him Morse Code and saying, “An H sounds like the hooves of galloping horses”, but these horses could never catch up with his BMW which he would drive with great enthusiasm. Another member says that Oliver used to be a skydiver with a lot of jumps to his credit. It turns out that he was actually a civilian parachute instructor. Wow, we didn’t know that!  This begs the question; did Oliver use a Straight Key or a Paddle when Aeronautical Mobile?
